Causes of Sids

Sids is the sudden, unexpected death of an apparently healthy baby during sleep. The causes of sids are not yet fully understood

What causes sids?

Despite several years of research experts are not yet able to isolate a single cause. There are lots of theories. Most expert agree that sids is probably caused by a combination of several factors.

What the research into the causes of sids has done is to pinpoint various risk factors. Knowing what some of the risks are, can help parents to avoid them.

The "risk factors" have been determined after examining thousands of SIDS cases. If investigators found the same thing over and over they would determine this as a possible "risk".
Take smoking for example. No doctor will say for sure that smoking causes sids but many sids investigations revealed a high proportion of families who smoked round their baby. It makes good sense then, to advise parents not to smoke in the same room as the baby.

The lack of answers is a worrying for parents but at present the most important thing new parents can do is make sure they are though familiar with the SIDS Prevention steps.

Sids and poisonous gases.
When I was researching for this page I came across an interesting article. I feel that it would be remiss not to mention it but I don't know enough to endorse it. Read the article yourself and see what you think. (Keep in mind that the writer has a product to sell)
